Two more extremely tight games in the books!

Vancouver Rise FC narrowly won against the ladies thanks to a penalty kick in the 90th minute. The game was a shut-out until the second half — Erin Jensen put the ladies on the scoreboard with a top-corner banger. The final score was 2-1 for Rise.

On the men's side, Felipe Morales Moya got the lads on the scoreboard — his fourth goal this season. Charlie Smith is currently the squad's leading goal scorer with a total of five at the halfway point. The game ended with the same score as the last time the two squads faced off: 3-2 for the 'Caps.

Next up: the teams get a breather next weekend — a well-deserved bye. They look forward to getting in some extra recovery after a busy eight weeks and preparing for their next home game.

Mark your calendars — Sunday, May 31 is going to be a party! All our recreational youth teams finish their seasons on May 30 and have been invited to hang out in our Seaview Home and Auto Glass Youth Zone for a pizza party. The pizza is generously being provided by Domino's. Another round of limited-edition player cards will be available during the game. Be sure to snag your favourite player's card before it's gone — they ran out quickly at the last home game!

Meet Alex Paul

It's Alex Paul's second year with NUFC's BCPL women's team! Originally from North Vancouver, the University of Victoria varsity player played for Altitude in 2024 before finding herself on the island.

I transferred from Langara to UVic and my family moved to Cedar. From there, coming home for the summer meant heading to Nanaimo. I reached out to Bobbie last year to play and had the best time. I loved playing here so I wanted to come back again this summer. I love the feeling of community in Nanaimo and would love to get to know everyone even more!

The quick facts — who are you? Job, major, soccer idols, favourite teams as a kid…

I am 22 years old and heading into my fifth and final year at UVic. I am studying Sociology and Indigenous Studies, hoping to go into nursing once my years of eligibility are completed. My favourite player growing up was Jessie Fleming.

Describe your soccer pathway.

I originally played for North Shore Girls Soccer Club when I was very young and just starting out. I then started playing for Fusion FC during COVID, heading into Grade 10. I didn't know if I wanted to play soccer post-secondary, but I knew I had to decide soon. I went to Langara out of high school, which was such a crucial part of my development. I had an amazing time there and played three seasons before transferring to UVic for my last two years. I played for Altitude FC in the summer of 2024, NUFC in the summer of 2025, and I'm back again at NUFC for summer 2026.

Why did you choose to play in the BCPL in Nanaimo?

My family moved to Nanaimo and I wanted to spend my summer with them while challenging myself and making a ton of new friends.

What's your favourite part about — or favourite memory from — playing soccer in Nanaimo/on the island?

My favourite memory of playing soccer on the island is definitely going from playing against all the VIU girls in my first years at Langara, to now having grown close with them during my time playing for Nanaimo.

See you at the stadium!
