It’s game day! Altitude FC is coming to town and we are ready for action.

“The ladies are feeling ready for a good match,” grade 12 women’s player Karis Nicks commented. “We have been focusing on some really important pieces in training, and I think they will be beneficial to incorporate in this upcoming match.”

Karis’ biggest take-away this season so far has been “getting familiar with the tempo and intensity of the league. It is a big step up from youth [soccer], and I think it has been super beneficial for my soccer career.”

Going into the last month of matches and training, I’m most looking forward to just enjoying the environment and high tempo games. Being surrounded by a supportive community that shows up for games creates a great environment - it really shows everyone’s love and passion for the sport.

MEET KARIS NICKS

Karis grew up playing youth recreational and REP soccer at Nanaimo United before heading off to play in the BCSPL for Wave down in Victoria. During the fall and spring, the Dover Bay grade 12 student played for Gorge United Women’s Premier team down in Victoria.

I wanted to play in the BCPL because of the high level of soccer, and I was excited to play for my hometown team in Nanaimo. I have known some of the girls for a long time, and I’m hoping to grow my game and learn from the veterans and coaches.

Karis is off to Victoria again next year: “I’m very excited to join the UVic Vikes soccer team. It has always been my goal to play post-secondary at UVic.” She noted that “playing in the BCPL is helping me prepare for the pace and intensity I will experience at the USports level.”

My favourite memory from this season by far is the team bonding that takes place on the road trips. It is a special group of ladies, and I’m happy to be a part of it, as well as contribute to its long term success.
